Road towards the Apple App Store release! (v0.2.10)

Hi!

Thanks for subscribing to my tiny BongBong game updates newsletter. 🤩

BongBong 0.2.10 is out, and the frog has retired. Here’s what’s new.

SEVEN BONGS

Each side now fights for its own bong. Yours is Bong Spike, Bong Oggle or Bong Gloop; in a Hunt round you go after Bong Blip, Puff, Capi or Fuzz. Every map picks its pair, and you can swap them in the builder. A hurt bong will even hop over to a health pack and patch herself up.

AIR SUPPORT

New crates call in help from above. After a 15-second countdown, a helicopter arrives and fires seeker missiles at the enemies on your screen, or a jet makes one strafing run and drops two bombs. Careful: enemy guns and towers can shoot the helicopter down.

A BATTLEFIELD THAT KEEPS BURNING

Wrecks smoulder for minutes; burnt ground glows with embers; ruins and stumps smoke; and a haze builds over a long fight, drifting with the wind. Rain, snow and sandstorms each change what’s left, and at night the fires light up the field.

BUILD WITHOUT LOSING YOUR PLACE BUILD

Now pauses your round instead of ending it. Change the map, hit BACK, and you’re right where you left off. The builder also looks like the game now, with the same walls, ground, tanks and sky, and a DAY switch for editing at night.

AND MORE

Smarter enemies: they pile up and ram you far less, and they no longer dither between you and a crate.

  • Shells that hit iron now usually burst instead of bouncing back.
  • Smoother restarts: the camera glides to your new start, and the end screen dissolves straight into the next round.
  • bongbong.io has a new page below the game with the downloads, plus Privacy and Support pages.

Playing co-op? Everyone in the room needs 0.2.10.

Play in your browser at bongbong.io, or download it for Windows, macOS, Linux or Android (via APK) from the same page.

iPhone and iPad are coming to the App Store soon.

See you on the battlefield,

- Oto

Introduction of shield in v0.0.16

Hi! OMG. U actually took the time to subscribe? Thank you for that! :) I'm releasing a new version of BongBong today, and although the visual presentation hasn't changed, a lot has been done to the engine to make its core healthy, maintainable, and feature-proof. Here are some of my notes. Map editor Currently, the only extremely unfriendly tool available to developers is the map editor, which now helps me (and my kids!) build different levels with varied layouts and item spawn locations.
